Frequency Inverter / VFD

A frequency inverter, or variable frequency drive (VFD), controls the speed of an AC motor by changing the frequency and voltage it receives. It gives smooth starting and stopping, precise speed control and large energy savings on pumps and fans.

• Fans, blowers, AHUs and cooling towers
• Compressors, conveyors and mixers
• Textile, spinning and process machines

How to choose

• Motor kW and current, with margin for heavy-duty loads.
• Supply: single-phase 220 V or three-phase 415 V.
• Duty: normal duty for pumps and fans, heavy duty for conveyors and crushers.
• Control: keypad, analogue signal, PLC or communication.
• Accessories: line reactor, EMC filter, braking resistor where needed.

Frequently asked questions

How much energy can a VFD save?

On pumps and fans the saving can be large, because power falls sharply as speed falls. Running a fan at 80% speed needs roughly half the power.

What is the difference between a VFD and a soft starter?

A soft starter only controls starting and stopping. A VFD also controls the running speed.

Do you build VFD panels?

Yes. We build VFD panels with the drive, protection, cooling and controls at our Demra factory.
