Miniature Circuit Breaker [MCB]

A miniature circuit breaker (MCB) protects final circuits such as lighting, socket outlets and small machines against overload and short circuit. MCBs are compact, DIN-rail mounted and trip at fixed settings defined by their curve (B, C or D).

How to choose

• Rated current to protect the cable of that circuit.
• Poles: SP, DP, TP or 4P.
• Curve: B for lighting and sockets, C for general loads and small motors, D for high inrush loads.
• Breaking capacity, for example 6 kA or 10 kA, to suit the fault level.
• Earth leakage protection: combine with an RCCB where people may touch equipment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between B, C and D curve MCBs?

They trip at different multiples of rated current: B at 3–5×, C at 5–10× and D at 10–20×. Use B for lighting, C for most general loads and D for loads with high starting current.

Does an MCB protect against electric shock?

No. An MCB protects against overload and short circuit. For shock protection use an RCCB or RCBO.

Which MCB sizes do you supply?

Single-pole, double-pole and triple-pole MCBs from 2 A to 63 A, and four-pole MCBs up to 100 A.
