Magnetic Contactor

A magnetic contactor is an electrically controlled switch. A small control voltage on its coil closes the main contacts, so motors, heaters, lights and capacitor banks can be switched on and off from push buttons, timers, PLCs or relays.

• Auxiliary contacts for interlocking and indication.
• Matching overload relay for motor starters.

What is the difference between a contactor and a relay?

Both are electrically operated switches, but a contactor is built to switch high power loads such as motors, while a relay switches small control signals.

Can I use a normal contactor in a PFI panel?

It is better to use capacitor-duty contactors, which limit the inrush current when capacitors are switched in and last much longer.

Which coil voltage should I choose?

Use the same voltage as your control circuit. 220 V AC is common in Bangladesh; 24 V DC is used with many PLC systems.
