LT Panel in Bangladesh: How to Choose LT Switchgear and What Decides the Price

LT panel buying guide for Bangladesh – Unique Quality Engineering

If you are setting up a factory, a commercial building or a new substation in Bangladesh, the LT panel is the heart of your electrical system. Every machine, light and lift gets its power through it. This guide explains what an LT panel is, how it is sized, and what really decides the LT panel price in Bangladesh, so you can compare quotations with confidence.

What is an LT panel?

LT stands for Low Tension. In our ebook we describe LT switchgear as the low-voltage circuit breakers, switches, off-load isolators, HRC fuses, earth leakage circuit breakers, MCBs, MCCBs and ACBs — in short, all the accessories required to protect the LV system.

In Bangladesh, an LT panel normally takes 415 V three-phase power from the secondary side of your distribution transformer and divides it safely between the outgoing feeders of the building. It sits between the transformer and the MDB, DB and SDB panels further down the line.

Start from your transformer and single-line diagram

A reliable LT panel is designed from the single-line diagram (SLD), not from a catalogue. The SLD shows the transformer rating, the incomer and every outgoing feeder with its load.

The incomer is sized from the transformer’s full-load current. At 415 V, a rough rule is 1.39 A for every kVA:

TransformerFull-load current at 415 VTypical incomer
250 kVAabout 348 A400 A MCCB or ACB
500 kVAabout 696 A800 A ACB
1000 kVAabout 1391 A1600 A ACB
1500 kVAabout 2087 A2500 A ACB
2000 kVAabout 2782 A3200 A ACB

Your consultant or our engineers then check the fault level, the cable or busbar trunking from the transformer, and any generator incomer before the final rating is fixed.

What goes inside an LT panel

  • Incomer: an Air Circuit Breaker (ACB) for large transformers, or an MCCB for smaller ones.
  • Busbars: copper or aluminium bars rated for the full current and the expected short-circuit level.
  • Outgoing feeders: MCCBs for most loads, ACBs for very large feeders.
  • Metering: a digital energy meter or multimeter to read voltage, current, kW and power factor.
  • Protection relays: earth fault and, where needed, IDMT relays.
  • Interlocks: for a generator, a changeover or ATS section so the two sources can never run in parallel by mistake.

Many factories also add a PFI plant right next to the LT panel to keep the power factor high.

What decides the LT panel price in Bangladesh

Two LT panels with the same “1600 A” label can be very different in price. These are the main factors:

  1. Breaker brand. Genuine ABB, Schneider, Siemens, Mitsubishi or Fuji Electric breakers cost more than unknown brands, but they come with tested ratings and spare parts for many years.
  2. Incomer type. A draw-out ACB with an electronic trip unit costs more than a fixed MCCB, but it allows safe maintenance and accurate protection settings.
  3. Busbar material and size. Copper busbars cost more than aluminium. The cross-section must match the current and fault level.
  4. Number of feeders. Every outgoing breaker, cable gland and meter adds cost.
  5. Enclosure. Sheet thickness, powder coating, IP rating and form of separation all change the price.
  6. Testing and after-sales support. Routine tests, documentation and a local service team add a little to the price but save a lot later.

Comparing quotations line by line — brand, model, rating and quantity for every breaker — is the only fair way to compare LT panel prices.

Standards to ask for

Ask your supplier to confirm that the panel follows BNBC (Bangladesh National Building Code) and IEC standards. For RMG and textile factories, the electrical installation should also meet Accord and Alliance safety requirements. At Unique Quality Engineering we follow BNBC, IEC and Accord–Alliance rules in every panel we build at our factory in Demra, Dhaka.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an LT panel and an HT panel?

An LT panel handles low voltage (415 V in Bangladesh). An HT panel handles the 11 kV or 33 kV supply on the primary side of the transformer and normally uses a VCB as its main breaker.

How long does it take to build an LT panel?

It depends on the size and the availability of breakers. Once the SLD and breaker list are approved, a standard factory LT panel is usually built in a few weeks.

Can you supply the panel with genuine branded breakers?

Yes. We are a business partner of ABB, Schneider Electric, Mitsubishi, Siemens and Fuji Electric, and we supply genuine breakers and spare parts.
