Switch Disconnector / Isolator Switch

A switch disconnector (also called an isolator switch or load-break switch) disconnects a circuit completely so that people can work on it safely. It can be switched on and off under normal load, and its handle shows clearly whether the circuit is on or off. The handle can usually be padlocked in the off position during maintenance.

• Local isolation in front of machines, pumps and motors
• Isolation in changeover and generator panels

Good to know

What is the difference between an isolator and a circuit breaker?

An isolator disconnects a circuit for safe work but does not trip on faults. A circuit breaker trips automatically on overload and short circuit.

Can a switch disconnector be switched under load?

Yes, a load-break switch disconnector is rated to switch normal load current. Off-load isolators must only be operated with no load.

Can the handle be locked?

Most models can be padlocked in the off position during maintenance.
